More about slate
Slates are defined as rocks that cleave into small leaves along a cleavage plane resulting from a flow of schist originated by a low degree or far below metamorphism due to tectonic compression. They originate from clay sedimentary rocks and belong petrographically to a class that begins at the boundary between sedimentary and metamorphic formations and ends in epizonal-metamorphic phyllite formations.
